We separate body and spirit when we binge eat or compulsive overeat

When we are focused on living a Christ centered life, our body and spirit are in sync. We know what we should do and do it, we know what we shouldn’t do and don’t do it.

This holds true when it comes to eating and nourishing our temple. When we think about eating, we know what we should eat and how much. When we stay Christ centered we eat properly. The minute we lose our focus on staying Christ centered we begin to separate our body from our spirit and that’s when we run into trouble. It is then that binge eating or compulsive over eating occur.

When we say grace before a meal and are thinking about what we are saying, we are Christ centered. If we say grace without thinking about it we have actually separated body and spirit while we are praying!

Most people who struggle with weight, even if they are Christ centered during grace, separate body and spirit as soon as they say “amen.”

Focus on staying Christ centered while you eat your meal or snack and you’ll be amazed how the act of eating can change.

God bless.

What is your defense against binge eating and compulsive over eating?

What is your defense against binge eating and general overeating?

Do you enjoy playing sports or games? Whether it’s tic-tac-toe, chess or checkers, football, baseball, soccer,
hockey, basketball etc., there are two parts to the game, offense and defense. If you want to be the best you have to focus on being good at both offense and defense.

Here’s a question for you, can you become really good by focusing on just one, and if so which one? When you look at any sport or game, you’ll find that while it’s usually more fun to watch a good offense,  it’s having a good defense that is the key to winning .

Let me give you some examples. In football, experts say to be a championship team you must have a great defense. In baseball they say good pitching (defense) beats good hitting (offense). The same holds true for hockey, soccer and basketball. While you can have a really good team with just a great offense, to have a great team you must have a great defense.

So in other words, if you had to pick being great at one, you better pick defense.

The same is true at playing games, if you want to win at chess or checkers (or any other game) you have to be good at defense, defending against your opponent’s moves.

So how does this pertain to weight loss? I believe weight loss is a game and your opponent is temptation.

When you diet, you are on offense. There are a lot of good, healthy diets available, so it’s easy to have a good
offense. If you have ever lost any weight you know this is true.

So why do people fail to achieve lasting weight loss, lousy defense! They cannot resist the temptation to binge
and overeat, it’s that simple.

If you develop a great defense against temptation,  your problems with binging and overeating are over.

The key to playing great defense is knowing your opponent, any coach will tell you that.   I’ll go into more detail on this another day.

God bless.

A key to losing weight and keeping it off is practicing passionate patience

When most people looking to lose weight are checking out diets, their focus is on how much weight can they lose in a short period of time. How much how fast, how much how fast?

This thought process creates an anxiousness and expectation that almost guarantees failure. Frustration sets in quickly when the weight loss slows leading to most dieters giving up. They then begin looking for the next magic pill or fad diet.

On top of this, any good doctor will tell when you experience extremely fast weight loss, you are basically dehydrating yourself. That’s right, you are losing mostly water, not fat.

One of the keys to losing weight and keeping it off is practicing passionate patience. What I mean by that is you understand you are on a weight loss journey and you will experience ups and downs.

You have your end goal in mind but your focus is on the process. Instead of getting upset when things don’t go your way, you instead look at your progress with a sense of childlike wonder.

As you monitor your progress, you are excited about not only the physical weight loss change you are going through, but also the “mental muscles” you are also developing as your journey continues.

Without developing these mental muscles you have no chance at lasting weight loss. So start practicing passionate patience and enjoy the journey.

God bless.

How to stop binge eating…worship God, not food

I believe eating is a spiritual experience. Think about it, have you ever said after taking a bite, “Oh, this is heavenly!” or, “This tastes out of this world!”

Mmm, that sounds kind of spiritual to me.

Have you ever taken a bite and closed your eyes? You focus inward as you savor the bite. Don’t you do the same thing when you pray?

As I see it, when you eat you are doing one of two things:

1) Worshiping the food you eat..

Or

2) Worshiping God with the food you eat.

When you binge and overeat you aren’t thinking about God, your sole focus is on the food, you are worshiping the food!

When you believe that eating is a spiritual experience and turn your focus to God, eating takes on a whole new meaning.

You know your body is God’s temple. In the Bible, God’s people were required to bring to the temple the finest foods as an offering to God.

You should approach eating the same way, when you eat you are bringing an offering to God. When you do this you are more likely to eat healthier, in moderation, and give yourself a chance at lasting weight loss.

So what do you want to do?

God bless.

Help stop binge eating by looking through the eyes of the spirit

If you are like I used to be, when you see food, you react on an instinctive basis – see food, eat food now! There is not much thought to nutrition and quantity, you just start eating and eating and eating…until you are stuffed.

When you react to food this way I call it “seeing food through the eyes of the flesh.”

What if instead you approach it from a different way and “see food through the eyes of the spirit?”

What if you looked at everything you eat as a gift to God that you are placing in your temple?

When you train yourself to think of God while you eat, not just right before (most people say a prayer and forget about him with the first bite), binge eating can become a thing of the past.

Try it, you’ll like it!

God bless.

Faith and family, not diet and exercise may be keys to a long life

Hi everyone!

I read a really interesting article today I wanted to pass on to you.

A team of scientists and National Geographic researchers have spent the last 8 years exploring 5 parts of the world where people live measurably longer lives.

Their conclusions led them to believe long life has less to do with diet and exercise and more to do with social life and environment. Strong families, friendships and faith are common in all 5 areas they studied.

You can read the article at the link below.

Let Jesus out of the closet to stop binge eating, lose weight and keep it off

I believe there are four types of Christians.

1) This type goes to church and when they leave don’t take God home with them.

2) This type goes to church and when they leave they take God with them. When they get home, they open the closet, hang their coat up and leave God in the closet too. They do let him out for prayers once in a while and that’s it.

3) This type includes many devout Christians including some ministers, priests, nuns and others who are very involved in the church. They always take God home with them and most of the time they keep God at their side…except when they think of food. They may let him stay by their side for grace but as soon as they say amen, into the closet God goes. As soon as they are done eating, they let him out.

4) This type of Christian is the same as type 3 except for one key difference. When they think of food and eat, they keep God by their side. They do not leave an opening for the devil to tempt them into binging and overeating. They are focused on God from the first thought of food through the entire time they are eating. The result, lasting weight loss!

So which group would you like to be in?

God bless,

Danny

Ultimate New Years Resolution to Stop Binge Eating and Compulsive Overeating

Everyone makes News Years resolutions to improve in specific areas of their lives, most give up within a month.

Here is a News Years resolution that could help you improve in every area of your life.

I will honor God in all that I think, say and do.

Now no one is perfect and God doesn’t expect us to be, but what if you strive to keep this resolution?

Let’s look at how it could affect just one area of your life, weight loss.

What does it mean to honor God when it comes to weight loss? It means eating in moderation, not binge eating or general overeating. Think about this, if you are not honoring God, you are rebelling against God. Whenever you binge or overeat you are rebelling against God.

The key to honoring God and stop rebelling is to keep God in the forefront of your thoughts.

How successful could you be if every time you thought of food, you thought of honoring God?

The Bible says our bodies are God’s temple and that God is present in us. It also says God’s temple is sacred and that no one gets away with vandalizing his temple (if you are obese can you say knee, back, feet and other health ailments?)

When you think about it, most Christians honor God with a prayer before a meal and then proceed to rebel against God by binging and overeating. Is that insane or what?

If you develop your ability to honor God every time you think of food you’ll eat better and eat less. You’ll lose weight and give yourself a chance at lasting weight loss.

There is also a really cool side benefit. Thoughts of honoring God will begin to happen at other times when you rebel and your life begins to change in ways that are indescribable!

Remember, God always loves you. He may not be happy with your behavior when you rebel, but he always loves you. Keep that in mind when you slip up and don’t give up.

Make this your New Years resolution and strive to keep it. It may be the last resolution you ever have to make.

Happy New Year and God bless!

Are binge eating sweets and general overeating holiday traditions you are teaching your children?

We all have holiday traditions we pass along to our own children or others. Is binge eating sweets and/or general overeating one of them?

Now I know you didn’t start the tradition of binge eating in your family, it was passed down from earlier generations.

Is that one of the traditions you’d like to continue for future generations or would you like to create a new legacy and stop it now?

Kids don’t do as we say, they do as we do. If they see us overeating, they will do it also.

With the growing problem of child obesity, it’s more important than ever that we as adults set the example and learn to resist the temptation to overeat.

Does it make any sense to teach your children bad habits at holiday time that can ruin their future health?

You can stop binge eating and general overeating and start a wonderful new holiday tradition of enjoying all of the delicious foods in moderation.

That may end up being the tradition your children benefit from the most!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

God bless.
