What is your defense against binge eating and general overeating?
Do you enjoy playing sports or games? Whether it’s tic-tac-toe, chess or checkers, football, baseball, soccer,
hockey, basketball etc., there are two parts to the game, offense and defense. If you want to be the best you have to focus on being good at both offense and defense.
Here’s a question for you, can you become really good by focusing on just one, and if so which one? When you look at any sport or game, you’ll find that while it’s usually more fun to watch a good offense, it’s having a good defense that is the key to winning .
Let me give you some examples. In football, experts say to be a championship team you must have a great defense. In baseball they say good pitching (defense) beats good hitting (offense). The same holds true for hockey, soccer and basketball. While you can have a really good team with just a great offense, to have a great team you must have a great defense.
So in other words, if you had to pick being great at one, you better pick defense.
The same is true at playing games, if you want to win at chess or checkers (or any other game) you have to be good at defense, defending against your opponent’s moves.
So how does this pertain to weight loss? I believe weight loss is a game and your opponent is temptation.
When you diet, you are on offense. There are a lot of good, healthy diets available, so it’s easy to have a good
offense. If you have ever lost any weight you know this is true.
So why do people fail to achieve lasting weight loss, lousy defense! They cannot resist the temptation to binge
and overeat, it’s that simple.
If you develop a great defense against temptation, your problems with binging and overeating are over.
The key to playing great defense is knowing your opponent, any coach will tell you that. I’ll go into more detail on this another day.
God bless.
