Can going to church make you fat?
That’s a very interesting question. An 18 year study found people who go to church or church activities at least once a week were twice as likely to become obese compared to non church goers.
Church activites where food is involved can be very dangerous for anyone who struggles with over eating. I know this from personal experience. In fact I did a 3 minute video on the subject a couple years ago that others have found helpful, click the link below to check it out.
I know some people were upset when the article came out, thinking it put church in a bad light but I don’t see it that way. I believe it highlighted one area that many ignore, gluttony at church functions.
The Bible says we are to take care of our temple but many, including church leaders eat at church socials or after church like they won’t eat for a week. I cannot stress enough how important it is to learn how to focus on God and not the food, not only while you eat but when filling your plate.
It’s all about temptation and limiting it’s power. As more and more Christians learn to resist the temptation to binge and over eat, and show others how to do the same, everything can change.
