Many people are intrigued about fasting as a way to lose weight. Is it a good way to lose weight?
Let’s look at it from a Biblical perspective and a scientific one too.
Science has proven starving yourself is not an effective way to lose weight. Not only do you deprive your body of essential nutrients, you shut down your metabolism and if that isn’t enough, you’ll lose more muscle than fat.
Fasting from a Biblical perspective is not intended as a way to lose weight but as a way to get closer to God. Fasting turns your focus to God and can help you develop an awareness of his presence throughout your day. Developing this awareness is critical to learning to limit the power of temptation.
While fasting is not necessary to developing an awareness of God, for some it may be helpful.
