Hi y’all,
I was watching a Christian TV show (see I do what I preach:) called Believers Way with Scott and Missy Johnson. They were talking about the difference between believing in God vs. believing God. There is an important distinction between the two.
There are many who believe in God but have trouble believing God. For many this stems from seeing people, be they religious leaders or others they perceive as very devout Christians, struggle with temptation in their everyday life.
I have heard people make comments about obese religious leaders or those that struggle in other ways that if what they preach is true how come it doesn’t work for them?
To me an important part of believing God is doing what Paul said in Philippians 4:4 (The Message), “Celebrate God all day every day. I mean revel in him!” To celebrate God all day you have to learn how develop an awareness of him throughout your day.
It should be obvious to all that in any area of life where we struggle with temptation, we are not focused on God. It doesn’t matter how religious or how knowledgeable you are about the Bible, when you are not focused on God you leave a crack, an opening for the Tempter to do his work.
Why do 95 -99% of all dieters gain the weight back? I believe it is because when they are tempted to binge or over eat they have not learned how to close the crack. They have not learned how to develop an awareness of God throughout their day.
When you develop that awareness of God throughout your day everything can change. You begin to see what it really means to “believe God” and it is then that you give yourself a chance at lasting weight loss.
God bless,
Danny
